I believe that this is the International Year of the reef because the ICRI International Year of the Reef 2008 is a world wide campaign focused on informing people about the beauty of the coral reefs and also to inform them about how anybody can help protect and preserve them.  This topic is relevant to my life because I think that the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is beautiful and I hope to live near their one day.  This is also a very interesting topic to me because I think that it is sooooooo cool how all of the fish live in the pretty coral.  Below are a few websites that help prove that this is the International Year of the Reef.

Life in the 19th century was much more difficult than it is now, especially in the area of education, where the discipline was much stricter. 

19th century-Life in the 19th century was a lot more difficult than now because when the children misbehaved in class the teachers would use physical discipline.  They would hit the kids using a leather strap, a hickory switch, and a paddle.  These devices would be used as a motive for them to behave in school.

Now-Now when children misbehave the children get detention, lunch detention, or sent to the principles office.  If a teacher used physical discipline they would lose their job and probably end up in jail because the use of physical discipline is outlawed.
